Our renewable infrastructure investment strategy
To optimise coverage of the cleantech market, Zouk invests equity capital in renewable infrastructure projects. Informed by our deep understanding of the cleantech market and our investors’ requirements, we invest in renewable infrastructure through separate entities using an independent team. This separation optimises the synergies between the infrastructure and technology teams.
Zouk defines this infrastructure sector as encompassing three sectors:
- Renewable energy generation, including solar, wind, waste-to-energy and biomass assets
- Environmental infrastructure, including water treatment, recycling and waste management
- Resource efficiency infrastructure, including transmission, transportation and energy storage assets
We take majority stakes in development and operational stage infrastructure projects with a geographic focus that reflects that of the Zouk platform, extending internationally from Europe and the Middle East.
To support the deployment of new technologies many countries employ incentive mechanisms to reach development targets. Zouk leverages the long term sovereign guarantees which these mechanisms provide to build projects with optimised returns and mitigated risk profiles.
Zouk currently manages one vehicle for renewable energy infrastructure investment: zouk Solar Opportunities Ltd (“zSOL”). Closed in 2008 at €52 million, zSOL invests specifically in solar power generation projects. Assets may be at a development stage or operational, in European and Middle Eastern regions with favourable support regimes for the development of clean infrastructure.
